General Description
The EHR Application Analyst (Analyst) performs meaningful analyses, reports, and presentations of data from the EHR and related applications. The Analyst troubleshoots and optimizes the functionality and integrations of the EHR and related applications. The Analyst participates in and supports appropriate efforts around data governance, data integrity, documentation, and standardization.
Responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities of the Job:
- Develops, publishes, and maintains both scheduled and ad hoc meaningful reports, analyses, and dashboards from Electronic Health Record (EHR) and related applications’ data to meet the organization’s information needs. Ensures accurate and on-time dissemination.
- Designs the appropriate data preparation, analysis, interpretation, and presentation for each project based on expertise and on gathering user/stakeholder requirements.
- Advises leadership on patient portal functionality; collaborates with patient-facing departments to develop, troubleshoot, and optimize portal functionality for communications and other uses. Addresses patient and user portal problems.
- Collaborates with Quality, programmatic, finance, pharmacy, and other departments to ensure effective use of and reporting from the EHR and related applications for decision-making, performance monitoring, quality improvement, regulatory reporting, and other needs.
- Collaborates with Clinical leadership to develop, implement, standardize, and document template, workflows, and efficiencies; reduce errors; and otherwise enhance clinicians’ experience and decision support.
- Keeps project on schedule and in scope; initiates regular updates to customer and to manager.
- Serves as primary liaison with EHR, integrated applications, and associated vendors with regard to workflows, data, and informatics issues, including telehealth workflows. Performs troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and solution generation when system is not functioning properly. Leads the design and testing of scripts and processes to ensure the products (new, existing, upgrades, changes) meet organizational needs
- Researches, identifies, and communicates opportunities for improvement in EHR and related applications. Ensures their compliance with regulatory requirements, current best practices/standards, and organizational objectives.
- Determines appropriate user set up and access within the EHR and related applications, including ensuring all EHR tasks are completed by departing personnel. Addresses higher level / 2nd tier user problems that can’t be resolved by the help desk.
- Analyzes patient data for specific projects, including quality reporting, the unique reporting requirements of an FQHC (e.g., UDS), grant activity reporting, audits, etc.
- Conducts data mining and analysis for internal improvement projects.
- Develops and/or delivers internal and external updates, trainings, and presentations as assigned. Develops and introduces appropriate self-service tools for approved users.
- Participates as assigned in testing of new applications, changes, and upgrades; develops and performs test scenarios; participates in training.
- Participates as assigned in data governance and data integrity activities. Supports the establishment, maintenance, and use of standard data definitions, consistent report design, task prioritization, etc.
- Creates and maintains documentation of all work, queries, data definitions, report schedules, etc.
- Collaborates effectively with the IT Department, the EHR trainer, and other stakeholders and co-workers.

Skills & Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required (VBA preferred).
- Programming, data analysis, reporting, and data visualization skills (such as SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Python, SAS, and/or R) required. Experience developing SQL queries and reports and building predictive models preferred.
- Database management experience and expertise required.
- Experience and expertise with one or more major Electronic Health Records/Electronic Medical Records (EHR/EMR) required; experience and expertise with athenahealth products strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in a quantitative or analytics field required, such as but not limited to informatics, data science, statistics, actuarial science, information science, or computer science.
- Degree and/or licensure in a clinical (e.g., medicine, nursing, allied health, psychology, social work) or scientific field required.
- Two or more years of relevant full-time paid work experience required.
- Experience with the unique data requirements of a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Rural Health Clinic (RHC), Critical Access Hospital (CAH), or similar environment is helpful.
