General Description:

The Occupational Health Nurse ensures a healthy and safe environment and reduce lost productivity from illness or injury for the employees of Prism Health North Texas. The Occupational Health Nurse is tasked with identifying environment risks and potential hazards, managing required onboarding and annual screenings for infectious disease, evaluates workplace related injuries or illness, and provides education and programming to support overall employee healthy in in the organization.


Specific Responsibilities of the Job:
  • Develops, implements, and oversees and effective Occupational Health Program for the organization.
  • Maintains rapport and a cooperative working relationship with employees, leadership, and Human Resources in an effort to create and maintain an Occupational Health program that provides quality care to meet work-related health needs of employees.
  • Conducts pre-employment and annual screenings and immunizations, injury and health assessments, and health and safety training under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer. 
  • Completes documentation in a timely manner and in conjunction with established procedures.
  • Completes worksite inspections and works collaboratively with the Facility Manager and risk management to ensure a safe workplace environment.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of occupational health procedures and practices.
  • Develops and delivers educational offerings and trainings that promote health and safety in the workplace and risk avoidance.
  • Collaborates with the Facility Manager and Human Resources to implement disaster and emergency preparedness planning and training.
  • Provides triage and initial assessment for employee injuries and illness that occur in the workplace and routes employees to external care settings when appropriate.
  • Supports FMLA, ADA, and other work-related employment documentation as needed.
  • Serves as a Subject Matter Expert on employee health and workplace safety.
  • Monitors surveillance data of employee incidents and illness for trends and reports to senior leaders as appropriate.
  • Stays current with employee health and safety regulations.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all employee data collection, communication and documentation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of employee health and safety standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Skilled in critical thinking, relationship building, prioritizing in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skilled in organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks and projects.
  • Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision, prioritize, organize or reorganize work and manage time effectively and efficiently.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s in Nursing with current Registered Nurse licensed to work in Texas required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Occupational Health experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years in a clinical setting, with Occupational Health experience preferred.
