General Description:
The Clinic Nurse – Behavioral Health collaborates with psychiatric providers, medical providers, counselors and support staff to provide nursing care to patients engaged with or intertesed in behavioral health services. This includes, but is not limited to, patient triage, patient assessment, administering treatments, patient and family education and documentation. The Clinic Nurse – Behavioral Health oversees referrals, medication access, and the scheduling of appointments by delegating these tasks to support staff such as medical assistants and referral coordinators.

Responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities:
Direct Reports:
- Serves as a role model to staff in demonstrating compassion, respect and caring while working within the nursing scope of practice to provide individualized, safe, and efficient care to patients and assistance to their families and visitors.
- Provides nursing care to behavioral health patients including triage, patient teaching, and nursing assessments when indicated.
- Collaborates with the Behavioral Health Director, Chief Beahvioral Health Officer, and Behavioral Health Providers to develop and implement workflows.
- Recognizes and reponds appropriately to crisis and emergency situations.
- Recommends policy changes which enhance and support quality initiatives, enhances workflow processes, and continuous quality improvement to always strive to improve the quality of care delivery in the clinic.
- Oversees monthly inventory, storage and tracking of psychiatric medications.
- Communicates with pharmaceutical reps to coordinate medication education and medication samples.
- Participates in continuing education and other appropriate experiences to improve professional competence.
- Fulfills other administrative and practical duties as assigned by the Director of Behavioral Health.
- Provides supplementary care to patients as needed within the scope of their licensure.
- Precepts newly hired staff as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Minimum two (2) years behavioral health experience preferred

- Medical knowledge of HIV/AIDS, as well as sensitivity to Persons Living with HIV (PLWH).
- Medical knowledge of psychiatric and behavioral health conditions.
- Excellent verbal and written skills with proven track record of the ability to communicate with health professionals of multiple disciplines, patients and their families.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently while comfortable working in an interdisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to develop and teach appropriate educational materials for varying levels of health literacy and preferred learning modalities.
- Knowledge of chronic conditions, medical and disease processes.
- Knowledge of office procedures, technology and equipment required to perform all manner of clerical, clinical and administrative work.
- Skill in critical thinking, relationship building prioritizing in a fast-paced environment and is responsive to community needs.
- Skill in organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks and projects.
- Skill in solving mathematic computations needed to accurately calculate medication dosages and assist with reports, collection, and data analysis.
- Ability to make assessments, draw conclusions, and make recommendations
- Ability to delegate tasks appropriately with consideration of staff licensure and competency.
- Ability to grasp new ideas, complete tasks with minimal supervision, prioritize, organize or reorganize work and manage time effectively and efficiently.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Dependable transportation and current Texas Driver’s License and active auto liability insurance.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required
Education and Experience
- Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing as a registered nurse (RN).
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
Minimum two (2) years behavioral health experience preferred
Required Licensure:
- Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state. Must be maintained throughout employment.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS). Must be maintained throughout employment.
